Jabel Akhdar which means ‘The Green Mountain’ in
Arabic is a part of Al-Hajar mountain ranges, in Oman. Situated few hundred kms
away from the capital city of Oman, Muscat, the mountain is perched at 2000
metres above sea level. This region is known for its spectacular refreshing
climate and magnificent landscape.
Apart from its natural scenic beauty and breathtaking views, the
mountain has some very interesting natural vegetation. Amidst its magnificent,
rocky and rugged layers there are varied range of trees and melange of shrubs
and plants. There are beautiful fruit orchards laid out in terrace style along
the slopes of the mountains which are endowed with natural springs.

This natural vegetation beauty is very unique to the region as it cannot be found in any other part of Arabian Peninsula and hence forms an essential part of natural heritage. The splendid climate of the region makes it perfect for such natural vegetation to grow and thrive.
Pomegranate orchards are one of the most popular sites of Jabel Akhdar. The pomegranates of Jabel Akhdar are considered as one of the finest kinds in the world. Interestingly, these pomegranates apart from being exported are also used for making drinks that look beautiful, taste divine and are also very nutritious. Often served in local parties, these non-alcoholic drinks are sometimes called as local champagne.

There are several other plants that are grown here like roses, peaches, walnuts, apricots and berries. These products of natural vegetation are used for several purposes like culinary, fragrance and also medicinal.
