Nitish Kumar’s Resignation… Disappointment For Many
The recent news of Nitish kumar’s resignation from
his post has come as a big disappointment for many who looked up to him for the
development of Bihar. Under his regime (as the chief Minister from 2005 to
2014) Bihar witnessed several developmental and constructive activities that had at
least set the moribund state on to the path of growth and progress.
Long years of misrule by RJD resulted in zero-
development and high level of corruption in Bihar. It was a formidable
challenge that the Nistish government accepted for the state. Although unlike the Modi’s
Gujarat model, the development model adopted by the Nitish’s government did not
hog the lime light, there is no denying of the fact that his efforts did succeed
to improve the ever-deteriorating condition of the state.
Series of poverty alleviation programmes and
development projects brought some positivity to the dying hopes of the people of
Bihar. His development schemes included power generation, relaying of
roads(that almost ceased to exist), execution of long delayed bridge building
projects, creation of job opportunities by
appointing nearly 100,000 school teachers, improvement of primary
health centre services and others – all in all a holistic approach that aimed at
improving the life quality of the people.
For all those who are getting doubtful of why all
praise for this government I just want to reveal about one of the UK based projects in
Bihar that involves hundreds of crores. On questioning the respective British
High Commisioner Sir Richard Stagg (who was in Patna to review the progress of
the UK government’s department for international Development(DFID) funded
projects in Bihar) as to why Bihar was chosen for the investment , he said “We
find the approach of Nitish Kumar right.
He is the man who has the vision to govern a state like bihar”. You can get

Victory or defeat of any leader or party depends on several factors. Modi’s stupendous victory is the clear example of smart marketing, popularity of Gujarat model , anti-incumbency against congress and the Hindutva factor (in a subtle way). Where did the Nitish governmet fail? Definitely he is no miracle man who could transform the age-long corruption and undergrowth into a success story in few years. His efforts are just the tip of the iceberg… lot needs to be done to dispel the darkness and create the light of hope for brighter future of Bihar. But at least his honest mission and good vision was taking the state from stagnancy and underdevelopment to betterment.

Having said all this, the rout of JD(U) poses a
big question in my mind about the interests of the public. What is the most important factor to any
individual voter while selecting his candidate? Isn’t it a better life quality, a developing state and growing opportunities.
If these factors fail to garner support, then definitely the fate of the state
is doomed.
The dismal performance of JD(U) with just 2
seats out of 40, reveals a clear failure… a
failure for the Man who visioned for development or a failure for the people who
preferred other irrelevant factors over the genuine issues? I just hope the right man gets the fair chance to prove his capabilities and work for the betterment of the state.
