Rising Rape Cases In India Draws World-Wide Criticism
In the
recent few weeks rape cases in India has risen at an alarming rate. The true scale of crime rise highlighted by the media reflects the deteriorating law
and order situation.
The Badaun district case where two
teen-aged girls were raped and then murdered has attracted world-wide flak.
The worst part is the negative and defensive attitude of the government
responsible for the law and order maintenance. Instead of accepting the
government machinery failure the Samajwadi party leaders are offering loose
statements that are only weakening their stand.
The rising rape cases clearly depict
the worsening situation of women in our country. The UN secretary Ban Ki Moon
recently stated that he is totally appalled by the gruesome rape and murder of
teen-aged girls in India. He stressed, “violence against women is peace
and security issue. Nation must respond on all fronts and achieve full equality
for all women”.He also clearly dismissed the destructive and irresponsible
attitude of the SP government that gave statements like “boys will be boys”.
The unfortunate incident engulfed the two girls when they ventured out to relieve themselves as they had no access to toilets. What a horrendous situation is that? First you fail to provide the basic amenities to your people and then when they fall prey to some destructive minds, you simply shrug off your responsibility.
The criminals are not only those who
dare to break the law of land and commit a crime but also those responsible
heads who instead of taking stern action against such crimes give loose
statements like “boys will be boys” and “Google and look for many more rape
cases, why target UP?” Is this the right attitude of any responsible government?
Isn’t it upright for a government to accept its loopholes and show sensitivity
and alertness in solving such issues.
Such unfortunate incidents are very
disturbing and more disturbing are the lame and defensive attitude of the
government, the guardian of the state. The current situation calls to
join the outcry against sexual violence. No country, no state can progress
where the women are unsafe and subjected to such assaults.
Time and now there has been demand
for strict laws against rape cases. Every time the brutality of such an
incident is brought to light, there is a massive hue and cry. All the state
machinery and respective heads seem to get highly responsive but then gradually
their alertness and responsiveness subsides. This finally results in bolstering
the mindsets of rapists and more cases keep on striking the headlines.
When will things fix? Who will do
it? Isn’t the first step be taken by the respective governments. Let them come
forward with a strong and bold attitude, ready to take heads on with such
crimes. Let the perverted minds (who have no respect for women) be filled with
fear of dire consequences. Let no accused go scot free. Let no one violate the
human rights of every individual woman. Lets fight against the degraded minds
and work towards gender equality.
A society where every woman enjoys
her basic human rights, a society where
the government machinery is most vigilant, a society where criminals are
defenseless. I dream of such a society in my country, my India.
