FIFA Comes to an End With Germany's Win of 1-0 Over Argentina

Germany cleared all the doubtful minds and critics that believed that no European country could ever win world cup in Southern American soil. It was Mario Goetze’s magic touch that ended the Germany’s 24-year old wait for another world cup.

The much tensed finals came to an end with the sea of red, yellow and black in the Rio de Janeiro’s Maracana stadium as Goetzo scored the winning goal in the extra time.

The fourth world cup after their last victory in 1990, Germany showed great performance with impressive defense. The last moment goal left the hero of Argentina, Lionel Messi lurking in the shadow of compatriot Diego Maradona that had led the country’s victory in 1986.

The substitute for Miroslav Klose, the 22 year old mid-fielder Goetzo's golden strike made all the difference. It was the moment of beauty for all the Germany fans when Gotze took Andre Schurrle’s cross on his chest and in one fluid motion volleyed the ball past the goalkeeper Sergio’s despairing dive.

The victory goal echoed a similar moment four years back when Andres Iniesta’s a mid-fielder scored in the similar fashion but from the other side of the area to take Spain to 1-0 extra time victory over the Netherlands.

While Germany experienced its defining moment, the defeated team was left disappointed. All the hope pinned on Messi came crashing down when he missed the chance to score after the half time break. Although he continued to threaten his opponents throughout the match his attacks and dribbles were well defended by the Germans. This proved that champs too are humans and susceptible to defeats.

As the final whistle blew, the players of the winning team jumped on top of each other in a pile in the centre of the pitch, while Messi walked alone with his hands on hips.

“Obviously the pain is tremendous, we wanted the cup for Argentina “,said the Argentina mid-fielder Javier Mascherano.

Messi was awarded with the tournament’s best player trophy. The thrilled and enthusiastic Manuel Neuer who was voted the best goalkeeper said, “the team did it beautifully. At some point we will stop celebrating but we’ll still wake up with a smile.”

With the 2014 world Cup triumph Germany has brought an end to its string of earlier misses in finals and semi-finals. The celebration in the stadium reached its crescendo when the winning team captain Phillip Lahm lifted the much deserved hallowed 18-carrat gold trophy. The elated captain concluded saying “it’s incredible how hard we worked and what a performance we produced”.
